NORFOLK, Va. – Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters is pleased to welcome a new pediatric surgeon, pediatric neurosurgeon, and two new pediatric endocrinologists.
Dr. Duane Duke has joined the pediatric surgery team. A board-certified pediatric surgeon, Dr. Duke comes to CHKD after serving as a pediatric surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, with his main duty station at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He is a combat veteran, having been deployed twice to Afghanistan and once to East Africa, where he provided battlefield trauma surgical care. He continues to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves and holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Dr. Duke earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, completed his residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and received fellowship training at Saint Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.
Dr. Kimberly Mackey has joined the neurosurgery team. Dr. Mackey comes to CHKD from the University of New Mexico, where she served as both an adult and pediatric neurosurgeon. There, she was the only practicing pediatric neurosurgeon, as well as the first-ever fellowship-trained pediatric neurosurgeon in the state. Having an interest in advancing pediatric neurosurgery in the developing world, she has worked in Kenya, Uganda, and South and Southeast Asia.
Dr. Mackey received her medical degree from the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of Pittsburgh, followed by a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Dr. Nicole Nejedly has joined the endocrinology department. Dr. Nejedly received her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She completed her pediatric residency and pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Dr. Melinda Penn has joined the endocrinology department. Dr. Penn received her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed her residency at Medical University of South Carolina. She received fellowship training in pediatric endocrinology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and is board-certified in pediatric endocrinology by the American Board of Pediatrics.
