HAMPTON ROADS, Va. – Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters is pleased to announce Michelle Clayton, MD, MPH, has been named medical director of CHKD’s child abuse program.

A fellowship-trained specialist in child abuse pediatrics, Dr. Clayton joined CHKD’s child abuse program in 2004. She is board certified in child abuse pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and also serves as director of the child abuse fellowship program at CHKD.

Dr. Clayton has received state and national recognition for her exceptional work in the prevention of child abuse and neglect. She currently conducts research and provides education and training for physicians and local investigative agencies on recognition of inflicted trauma. She also remains an active member of several state committees related to child welfare and child abuse prevention.

About CHKD’s child abuse program

Established in 1998, the CHKD child abuse program ensures that all children who are suspected victims of abuse or neglect in Hampton Roads have access to quality services and treatment. The program offers an integrated response to child abuse through case coordination with a multidisciplinary team of community professionals. Children made more than 4,000 visits to CHKD's child abuse program last year.
