NORFOLK, Va. – – National medical organizations recently honored two CHKD physicians, one for his advocacy in the ear, nose, and throat field, and the other for his service in radiology:

Dr. David H. Darrow, who performs ear, nose, and throat surgeries at CHKD, will receive the 2018 Otolaryngology Advocacy Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Darrow was co-author of the first online AAP course on ear infections, and he has lectured and developed guidelines for treatment of birthmarks, ear infections, and tonsillectomies. He is also co-editor of the AAP textbook Pediatric Otolaryngology, a publication for primary care practitioners.

Dr. Darrow will receive the award at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, Florida, in November.

Dr. David C. Kushner, who helps ensure the quality and safety of our children’s care at CHKD, was recently named one of three Gold Medalists for 2019 for innovative service to the American College of Radiology.

Dr. Kushner is the associate medical director for quality and safety at CHKD, a role in which he helps develop and maintain safety protocols that make CHKD a high caliber hospital. He formerly held positions as medical director of radiology at CHKD, president of the ACR, and chair of the ACR Commission on Membership and Communications.

Dr. Kushner will receive the honor during the ACR 2019 annual meeting in May in Washington, D.C.
