The King’s Daughters Presents $700,000 Gift to CHKD
NORFOLK, Va. – On Thursday, July 26, The King’s Daughters, founding organization of Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, presented a $700,000 donation to CHKD. The King’s Daughters raised the funds through Circle (member) events and larger special events like RunWalk for the Kids, and the annual holiday gala, Moonlight & Mistletoe, as well as their popular collection canisters at retail locations throughout the region.
The King’s Daughters recently pledged $1 million toward CHKD’s emerging mental health campaign, and $500,000 of the $700,000 gift will be used to help expand mental health care in our region. “For 122 years, The King’s Daughters have been at the forefront, first to recognize and meet our children’s healthcare needs,” says CHKD CEO and President Jim Dahling. “This year’s generous gift will help us meet the growing demand for pediatric mental health in our community. We are incredibly grateful.”
CHKD recently received state approval to build a $60.7 million mental health facility to help meet the critical shortage of pediatric mental health services in our region. “Meeting the mental health needs of our local children and adolescents is paramount,” says Elly Smith, who served as president of The King’s Daughters during the period the funds were raised. “The King’s Daughters are proud to have made a unanimous decision to pledge $1 million in support of CHKD’s efforts to expand this program, and even more proud to have already fulfilled half of this pledge.”
