The video kicked off a “Wash This Way” campaign created to highlight CHKD’s hand hygiene policies throughout the organization.

Purposely designed to be fun and lighthearted, the video featured members from every branch of the CHKD family. Pediatricians, specialists, surgeons, nurses, administrators, staff members and patients donned sunglasses and silly hats while lip-syncing to lyrics about hand hygiene. The two-minute 80s-style hip-hop video also featured clips from a variety of CHKD locations – from the operating rooms and the rehabilitation unit to Newport News Pediatrics.

Released during Patient Safety Awareness Month in March, the video is just one part of a larger initiative to continue delivering safe, high-quality healthcare to children throughout the health system. CHKD is one of more than 90 pediatric health systems that make up Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety – a nationwide collaborative dedicated to sharing ideas and improvements on the safety and quality of pediatric care.

Dr. Sandip Godambe, CHKD’s vice president of clinical integration and quality, says hand hygiene may seem like a simple concept, but it’s an important one that can affect the care and safety of patients and families. “Hand washing is something everyone can do to help each other and contribute to good health,” he says. “It was great to see how enthusiastic the whole team was about working together to get this valuable message out.”
