CHKD Opening Inpatient Neuroscience Unit

CHKD will open a new 8-bed inpatient unit for neuroscience patients on January 31, 2017. Pediatric neurologist Svinder Toor, MD, will serve as medical director of the new service and Elizabeth Friske, RN, as director.

The unit will provide care to neurology, neurosurgery and epilepsy monitoring patients and feature four video EEG rooms with state-of-the-art equipment. "CHKD has been very successful in recruiting nurses with inpatient experience in pediatric neuroscience. That knowledge and skill is a major benefit of cohorting these patients in one unit," says Dr. Toor. "Working together in one area will also ease collaboration between all of the different disciplines involved, from neurology and neurosurgery to physical, occupational and speech therapy."
