Sesame Street Magic Brightens Patients' Day

Elmo and his friends came all the way from Sesame Street to share hugs and high-fives with our patients and families. The characters from Sesame Street Live! were in town preparing for their upcoming Norfolk show at Ted Constant Convocation Center April 12 and 13.

Giggles and cheers rang from the CHKD playroom as patients, families, and staff enjoyed a special pre-show experience with Elmo and his friends during a private production organized just for them.

Being in the hospital isn’t any fun, but a visit with Elmo and his friends helped make the day a little brighter.

“Seeing our kids smile is exactly why this visit with Elmo, and similar visits, are so special,” said Shannon Hood, CHKD’s child life manager. “He allowed the kids to escape therapy, treatment, medicine, and pain for a brief period of time. All I could do was stand back and watch the patients laugh and smile. Job well done, Elmo!”
