About Our Inpatient Units

General Care Unit

In our general care unit, patients range from children with diabetes to those having orthopedic surgery. 

Hematology/Oncology Unit

Our hematology/oncology unit cares for children with cancer or blood disorders who require inpatient treatment or hospitalization. 

Neuroscience Unit

Our neuroscience inpatient unit features four video EEG rooms with state-of-the-art equipment and provides monitoring and care of neurology, neurosurgery and epilepsy patients. 

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Over 500 of our smallest patients receive care in our NICU and neonatal stepdown unit. 

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Our pediatric intensive care unit delivers comprehensive care to children who are facing life-threatening conditions or injuries.

Progressive Care Unit

In this unit cares for patients who are acutely or chronically ill, nurses take the lead in coordinating care for those who require close monitoring and observation, with special emphasis on nephrology, pulmonology, orthopedics, gastroenterology and mental health. 

Transitional Care Unit (TCU)

Our transitional care unit provides for children who require or have required a ventilator.

Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit

Our pediatric inpatient rehabilitation unit is the only one of its kind in Virginia and offers children a unique environment to rebuild strength and regain skills. 

Emergency Care

Our emergency department triages patients, treating immediate needs.
