Critical care specialists at CHKD provide comprehensive, coordinated critical care in an intensive care setting. Many pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists are available to assist the pediatric intensivists with the care of a critically ill child.

Around-the-clock Medical Coverage

CHKD provides a multidisciplinary pediatric intensive care unit with 24-hour medical coverage.

A highly skilled pediatric transport team is available 24 hours a day to transport critically ill children to CHKD in specially equipped mobile intensive care units. If necessary, the Nightingale air ambulance is sent for emergency situations.

The critical care physicians are all board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric critical care. Multiple other pediatric medical and surgical specialists, pharmacists, lab technicians, radiologists, therapists and dietitians are available 24 hours a day for consultation and patient support.
