CHKD's pediatric emergency specialists provide care to acutely ill or injured children at CHKD's emergency center, the region's only emergency facility just for children.

We have extensive experience handling the problems that commonly send children to the emergency department. These include:

• Animal and human bites
• Asthma and other breathing difficulties
• Broken bones
• Burns
• Dehydration
• Dental emergencies
• Eye injuries
• Head injuries
• Near drownings
• Severe infections
• Seizures
• Trauma

Services We Offer

Children who come to CHKD's Emergency Center are cared for by a wide range of specialists - pediatricians, nurses and technicians - trained to understand and meet the unique needs of children. Our medical equipment is child-sized and our facility is warm and child-friendly to help ease fear and discomfort. Among the services we offer are:

• X-ray
• Lab tests
• Respiratory therapy
• Casting
• Sutures
• Special minor-care hours for non-emergencies
• Child life therapy
• Observation beds
• Consultation with pediatric sub-specialists and surgeons

The division has an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited and active  pediatric emergency medicine fellowship program that accepts two fellows per year. We also sponsor fellowships international pediatric emergency medicine and simulation in medical education.
