Cystic Fibrosis Adult Program
Cystic fibrosis patients are transitioned to the adult program at age 21. Ignacio Ripoll, MD
has been the adult program director of the cystic fibrosis program
since it started in 1992. The adult program is an accredited adult care
center through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Care Network.
There is an outpatient clinic for adults ages 21 and over on
Friday afternoons at CHKD. Dr. Ripoll comes to CHKD to hold the clinic with the pediatric cystic
fibrosis multidisciplinary team. He is available for consultation and to
see patients with acute illnesses between CF regular clinic days at his
private office in Virginia Beach.
The Adult program is served by adult
pulmonologists who come to CHKD for the adult clinic. There are four
adult pulmonologists who rotate through the CF Adult program. Joining Dr. Ripoll in the rotation are Dr. Enrique Calvo-Ayala, Dr. Joshua Sill and Dr. Michael Hooper.
There are
pulmonary fellows and medical students that are part of the medical team.
The same multidisciplinary team that serves the pediatric CF program provides
services for the outpatient adult program.
Inpatient admissions for adults are at Sentara Norfolk General, located at 600 Gresham Drive, Norfolk, VA 23507, which is right next door to CHKD and part of the Eastern Virginia Medical School campus.
The EVMS pulmonary physicians that provide
outpatient care in the Adult CF Program serve as consultants in their inpatient
care.
