How do I get my child scheduled for a therapy appointment?
Please call your physician and discuss any concerns you may have regarding a referral for occupational, physical or speech therapy. If the physician deems a therapy evaluation appropriate, a prescription will be required to begin the scheduling process. Please fax the prescription to the CHKD Therapy Services Department at (757) 668-7389.

How long will my child wait to begin therapy?
Wait times vary at each health center location. An office staff member will contact you upon receiving the prescription for therapy services, in order to discuss your location preferences and times.

Should I come early if my child is a new patient?
Yes, please come 15-20 minutes early. This will facilitate a timely visit with your therapist. You may also complete the case history form to expedite your first visit.

How do I know what is covered under my insurance plan?
Most insurance plans have a website you can access. You can also call the customer service number located on the back of your ID card.

What if I am going to be late for my appointment?
Please call our office if you are going to be late or cannot keep your appointment. The office staff can assist you with rescheduling if necessary. We do have a $25 charge for missed appointments if they are not cancelled 24 hours prior to the visit.

Do I have to use the same office for all my visits?
You may indicate the location at which you prefer your child to receive therapy.

If I travel between offices for visits, will the therapist still have access to my child's record at each location?
Yes. Our electronic medical record allows us to coordinate care easily among all of our locations, as well as among providers.

Can I leave a message for the therapist and expect a call back?
Yes. When you leave a message at any of the offices, your call will be returned either by an office staff member or one of our therapists. As always, if your child has a life-threatening emergency, please call 911.

What if I would like to observe physical, occupational, or speech therapy services at CHKD?
