Helmet Safety
If your child is on wheels this summer, make sure she wears her helmet.
Here’s why this simple reminder is so important:
- A helmet can reduce the risk of brain injury in a crash by up to 88 percent.
- Accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. Eighty percent occur in broad daylight.
- Even a single traumatic brain injury can have life-long consequences.
Have fun and be safe this summer with the following safety tips:
- Set a good example. Always wear a helmet yourself while biking.
- Let kids choose their own helmets. They’ll be more likely to wear them.
- Make sure the helmet fits properly. Ask a bike store employee to help.
- Do not wear bike helmets on the playground. The straps can get caught on play equipment and cause injury.
