Your pediatrician's advice should be your first consideration; however, the following indications of illness may indicate it is not a school day.

  1. Temperature (oral, rectal or underarm) of 100 degrees or more during the past 24 hours
  2. Persistent heavy cough
  3. Skin eruptions or an undiagnosed rash
  4. Red eyelid linings or eye irritation with swelling or discharge
  5. Vomiting
  6. Difficult or rapid breathing
  7. Diarrhea (more than one abnormally loose stool or diarrhea in a 24-hour period)
  8. Is fussy or cranky and you don't know why
