Morlock, Mitchell, Harris join executive team

NORFOLK, VA, August 13, 2015 – Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters Health System has named three new vice presidents.

Paul Morlock joins CHKD Health System as Vice President of Human Resources and Occupational Health. Karen Mitchell, RN, has been promoted to Vice President of Patient Care Services, and Tamika Harris has been selected to serve in a newly created position as Vice President of Facilities and Support Services.

“We are pleased to have these three new members of our executive team,” said John Harding, Chief Operating Officer of CHKD Health System. “Karen and Tamika bring a wealth of CHKD knowledge to their new roles, and Paul brings us a fresh perspective from his work with other health systems.”

Morlock replaces retiring Vice President of Human Resources, David Bowers, and comes to CHKD after serving in a similar role at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, NC. Morlock has more than 30 years of healthcare management experience. He holds a B.S. from Luther College and a master’s degree in hospital administration from the University of Iowa.

Mitchell replaces retiring Vice President of Patient Care Services, Jo-Ann Burke, RN. Mitchell will serve as Chief Nursing Officer, overseeing inpatient units and the emergency department, as well as hematology and oncology, the CHKD transport team, trauma, nursing informatics and clinical practice and education. She has been with CHKD since 1996 in a variety of roles, most recently as Director of Hematology and Oncology. She holds a B.S.N. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree with a focus on nursing leadership and management from George Washington University

Harris will oversee the construction, management and maintenance of the organization’s facilities. Her responsibilities will include environmental services, safety and security, engineering and emergency management. She previously served as CHKD’s Director of Ambulatory Facilities and Director of Facility Planning and Construction. She holds a B.S. from Old Dominion University and a master’s degree in health administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.
