Our Sports Medicine Program offers surgical and non-surgical care to young athletes (through college), as well as injury prevention services, sports medicine physical therapy, imaging, sports nutrition and sports performance/fitness services. 

Our Sports Concussion Program evaluates head injuries and provides the care and direction needed after a concussion. CHKD’s Athletic Training Program provides Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs) to Chesapeake and Virginia Beach Public Schools and other sporting events for young athletes in the area.

What work-up is needed prior to the first appointment?

Please send any relevant materials not accessible through CHKD's Electronic Health Records (EHR) such as lab results, radiographs, and other accompanying reports. Some conditions require pre-consult work-up. Please contact our office at (757) 668-6550.

No pre-referral work-up is required for most conditions. No advanced imaging studies (i.e. CT or MRI) are needed before referral. If you have already done imaging studies, please have your patient/family hand-carry these images to their appointment if not available electronically. Please fax pertinent medical records to (757) 668-6567.

When will my patient be able to obtain an appointment?

Appointments are available same day for urgent issues and typically within 24 hours for all other issues.

Your patient will be seen by the provider that is the best match for managing the current condition.

Orthopedic and sports medicine clinics are held in Norfolk (Kempsville), Chesapeake (Oakbrooke), Newport News (Oyster Point) and Virginia Beach (Landstown).
