Role of KAPAC

Through power of the children’s voice, KAPAC highlights issues that are important in improving the patient’s experience. KAPAC's role includes:

  • Providing input and having an opportunity to share in decision making
  • Improving hospitalization, coping, and treatment by providing awareness to administration and interdisciplinary teams through the voices of the council
  • Increasing patient and family satisfaction
  • Developing and improving programming to meet the needs of patients and families
  • Integrating children’s issues and ideas into the community
  • Making improvements and recommendations to the design and efficiency of the hospital
  • Making children’s issues the forefront of care.

Volunteer Council members include current and former patients and siblings who have experienced CHKD programs and services firsthand. Members have varied backgrounds and health care experiences. Hospital administrators and select staff are also a part of the Council.

Each KAPAC member is appointed to a one-year term. The Council meets once a month between September and May (excluding December) on the first Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7:30. Dinner is provided.
